Based in the seaside town of Whitby, in the Borough of Scarborough, family-run Wilf Noble Building Supplies Ltd welcomes customers ranging from the DIY enthusiast, right the way through to the experienced tradesman, including builders and roofing specialists.

As well as offering a wide range of quality products – including bricks, blocks, building materials, and landscaping materials – for the North Yorkshire builders’ merchant, one of the key focuses in the business is being able to offer competitive prices.

Catherine Garbutt, one of the directors at the company, says in order to keep the store’s price tags competitive, it’s vital to work with suppliers that can also offer the best possible price.

Midland Lead does just that, notes Catherine, who became a director in the firm in 2013: “Price is everything in our industry. Our focus is on getting the best price from our suppliers so that we can, in turn, offer our customers the best price.”

Although the company was established some 35-40 years ago, growing with it a great reputation for being friendly and reliable, Wilf Noble Building Supplies became a limited company in 2000. Shortly after this, the business began stocking Midland Lead’s BBA-accredited machine cast lead sheet; a relationships that’s been going over 10 years now.

Asked why the firm chose to stock machine cast lead sheet over rolled, she says: “We stock machine cast lead as that’s what our customers want; put simply, that’s what they ask for, so that’s what we stock.”

With lead sales “steady” according to Catherine, last year the company bought 38 tonnes of machine cast lead, alongside a range of Midland Lead’s lead ancillaries, including fixing clips, lead dome sets – which are used to fix lead sheet for decorative purposes – and flexible lead slate (multi-slates); lead and rubber universal weathering slate that can be dressed to any tile shape.

As well as a keen focus on competitive pricing, Catherine says great service is also key: “Having quick and efficient delivery, good communication and all-round good service from the guys at Midland Lead is also important, and one of the reasons we’ve stuck with them for over 10 years.

“As the company continues to grow from strength to strength into the future, we envisage keeping our strong relationship with Midland Lead,” she adds.
