We buy scrap lead

Midland Lead Manufacturers is a major lead sheet manufacturer in the United Kingdom, producing an estimated 20,000 tonnes yearly. We are a fully integrated lead sheet producer with our own refining processes, operating under an Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) license that is regulated by the UK Environment Agency. What’s more, we are one of the first UK lead manufacturers to hold both an ISO 14001and OHSAS 18001 certificate.

Soft lead scrap specifications
For our production process, we purchase large quantities of clean soft lead scrap from UK scrap merchants. The material – we use only recycled lead to fill our kettles – has to comply with our standards and as set out in the BS MA Specification Drake 25:

  • Material shall consist of clean soft scrap lead, free of other materials such as drosses, battery plates, lead covered cable, antimonial lead, collapsible tubes, foil, type metals, aluminium, zinc, wheel weights, iron and brass fittings, dirty chemical lead and radioactive materials.
  • Packaging shall be loose or stacked on pallets, free of plastic bags and builders bags, and shall not be baled or drummed.
  • Any loads found by our inspector to contain any of the above contaminants or to contain baled material may be rejected totally or penalised by way of draft deductions.

Delivery and payment details

Our yard is open for scrap deliveries from 8.30 till 17.00 on week days and we only close during the Christmas period. Our payment policy is such that once the material has passed our quality inspection, we pay within 24 hours after delivery. If it is a delivery with supplier-owned vehicles, the driver can wait for his cheque – if previously agreed.
