Based in the heart of Swansea city centre, in South Wales, builders and timber merchants Exall & Jones Ltd welcomes customers ranging from the occasional DIY-er right the way through to experienced housing developers.
Enjoying healthy business relationships with numerous major contractors across South Wales, the family-run firm also enjoys great relationships with its suppliers, one of which, for the past 32 years, has been Midland Lead.
As well as stocking our machine cast lead in code 3 and 4 in a variety of sizes, Exall & Jones Ltd also sells our flexible lead slate (multi-slates), fixing clips, and patination oil – developed by the UK lead and building industry to prevent unsightly white staining on the lead work or the surrounding brickwork.
Jim Mills, finance director, has been with the company 12 years. He says the firm currently only buys lead sheet from Midland lead, and in checking the sales records, tells us 35 tonnes of lead was sold in 2015 and 36 tonnes in 2014.
“Since the firm was established in Feb 1984, we’ve been using Midland Lead from day one. And to this day, we’re still seeing a nice steady demand for lead”, he says.
Originally set up by John Exall and David Jones, who at the time had over 50 years combined experience in the building industry, the duo knew exactly what their customers would want when choosing which products to stock.
David, who still works with the company today, says: “Back in the day we used to deal with Don Gardener at Midland Lead, who was a really great chap. He came to visit us when we were setting up the business. He was tremendous; he offered us good pricing, quality service and a great working relationship. While he’s sadly passed on now, we’ve stuck with Midland Lead as they’ve continued to offer that great service over the years.”
