This September, PC Building Supplies Ltd celebrated 40 years in business, serving both the local community and the national house builder.
During these past four decades, the family-owned independent builders’ merchant has sold a wide range of building materials, including Midland Lead’s lead sheet, lead sealant, fixing clips, flat and pitched slates and patination oil.
Initially established by Bill Dunning in the late 70s, today PC Building Supplies Ltd is run by Bill’s two sons, Nick and Tim.
From their branch in Hythe, Nick and Tim run a team of 16 staff, who work hard to maintain the company’s solid reputation across the Hampshire area.
One of those 16 is Liam Wicks, who began working for the business seven months ago heading up counter sales. Commenting on the company’s relationship with Midland Lead, Liam says: “We’ve been stocking Midland Lead’s lead sheet for approximately eight years now. While the decision to choose Midland Lead over other lead sheet manufacturers was before my time with the business, I’m told it was down to a combination of quality product, a great reputation in the building industry and competitive pricing.”
With the company’s customers primarily purchasing lead sheet for roofing projects, including repairs and building extensions, Liam says business is very good right now, with lead sales steadily rising. “Customers are happy with the lead we sell and keep coming back for more, which is always a good sign!” he adds.
With strong sales results, Liam reveals that for PC Building Supplies, expansion is very near on the horizon: “We’re planning to move to a bigger site, which is positioned near a roundabout. The move will be great for increasing the shop’s footfall and will give us more room to expand our stock range, which may include a bigger selection of lead sheet sizes.”
