Based in West Yorkshire, Tony Sharkey and his 7 employees have managed to progress from a laptop and mobile phone to becoming a member of the National Merchant Buying Society Ltd (NMBS) and turning over £2.5 million last year, all this within five years of trading. With such a successful story, we interviewed owner Tony to see how he managed it all.
“We managed to become part of the NMBS within our first few months of trading which opens you up with 100’s of suppliers. This was brilliant for us and it allows you to get better credit, which everyone in business understands how valuable that can be.”

Always happy to offer advice to other businesses, we asked Tony for his tips on success.
“A few things that I think have made my business a success are:
– Being a member of the NMBS early on gives you a credible starting point and really helps with new business.
– I think it’s really important to motivate your staff and reward them accordingly.
– Making sure any enquiries, problems or orders are dealt with efficiently.
– Having key decision-makers available is also really valuable to your customers.”
