Over the past 13 years of trading, Hazelwoods Limited has firmly established itself as a leading independent building materials supplier, forming a solid reputation across the area of Ickleford, Hertfordshire; where the company’s based.

Offering competitive prices on the latest products from Europe’s top manufacturers, Hazelwoods’ comprehensive range includes both BS-accredited rolled and BBA-accredited machine cast lead sheet from Midland Lead.

As the only supplier of both machine cast and rolled lead sheet in the UK, Midland Lead has been supplying Hazelwoods’ owner Darren Hazelwood with both versions, along with a range of lead ancillaries, for the past five years now.

Heading up a dedicated and tight-knit team of six, Darren says he works hard to bridge the gap between end users and suppliers to ensure excellence in both price and innovation.

To meet this philosophy, he notes that great supplier relationships are key: “Midland Lead are fantastic. I’ve built up a great working relationship with them, as opposed to just a straight-forward trading relationship. They have a real can-do approach to the account and a willingness to understand the business from a trading perspective in terms of us needing to turn orders around rapidly when necessary. They really focus on helping us support the end-user.

With the company’s customers primarily purchasing lead sheet for roofing projects, he goes on to point out a recent project Midland Lead’s product was used for: “We just had a customer come in who bought lead sheet for an old manor house, which is the biggest in the village. He used it for valley troughs where the two sloping roof edges meet, creating a gutter.

Darren, who says he’s seeing sales growth in lead sheet continue to rise, adds: “We get a lot of repeat business, which is a good sign the customers are happy with the product.

With strong sales results, Hazelwoods has taken the opportunity to expand its premises. “We’re doubling our square footage from 6000 to 12,000, which will provide additional space for storage and a new showroom, where Midland Lead is actually helping to create a lead showcase area.

The plans for the showcase area look fantastic. They really have gone above and beyond the call of duty, having put a lot of time and effort into it,” he says.

With the future growth and development of the business being supported by Midland Lead, he adds: “They’ve opened up options for us and we’ll certainly continue to work with them as the business continues to expand.
