Priding itself on quality service and large product range, Kent-based Mitcham Building Supplies has stocked Midland Lead’s rolled lead sheet, lead clips and patination oil for more than three years now.
Current director Aman Whaid, who joined in 1992, says the family business has over 30 years’ experience in the timber and builders’ merchants industry, having been trading since 1985.
Incorporated in 2012, around the same time Mitcham Building Supplies began working with Midland Lead, today the company operates from two branches – one based in Eddington and one in Gillingham – having recently closed its third.
“We decided to streamline the business by closing one branch and expanding the Gillingham site,” says Aman. “It’s a move that has been working very well so far,” he adds.
With two popular branches to focus on, Aman is now able to concentrate his efforts on providing the best possible product range for his customers.
“The products we stock are selected by ourselves and are of the highest standard and quality,” he says, explaining that he chose Midland Lead over other lead sheet manufacturers due to a combination of “a good trading relationship and competitive pricing”.
When discussing what attributes he values in a supplier, Aman says for him, a high-quality product, great communication and a good price are all equally important, and that there’s no use having one, without the other two.
Trading mainly with sole traders and small companies when it comes to lead sheet, on average Mitcham Building Supplies sells 12-15 tonnes annually; a figure he’s seen marginally increase over the past few years.
With lead sales steadily rising and a strong supplier relationship developed over the past few years, the future looks bright for the firm.
