Royal Recognition for Midland Lead with the King’s Award for Enterprise 2024

On the 6th of May – officially announced in the London Gazette – Midland Lead has been honoured with The King’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development 2024 – and we are so proud. It reflects the dedication and effort the whole team have invested in sustainable manufacturing.

Standing proudly among the 252 organisations nationally recognised with the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise, Midland Lead celebrates this honour. This acknowledgment emphasises our pursuit of excellence and dedication to sustainability in manufacturing. It reaffirms our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in our industry, while prioritising our environmental responsibility. We are honoured to be recognised and are deeply grateful for this recognition.

Founded in 1983 we now employ nearly 40 people, and we remain the only UK manufacturer offering machine-cast lead sheet with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). As an independent, family-run company, we produce lead sheet products using recycled lead for UK and overseas construction markets.

Boudewijn Tuinenburg, Managing Director of Midland Lead said; “We are immensely proud to receive this prestigious award, and it is truly gratifying to be recognised in such a manner. Over the last few years, we have invested in several initiatives that have helped us move towards becoming a Net Zero manufacturer by 2050.”

“Our company’s commitment to building a sustainable future is essential, and this Royal endorsement serves as a motivating and inspiring force for our entire team. We remain dedicated to fostering and promoting behavioural changes for sustainability within manufacturing, internally and within the East Midlands region.”

Marvin Cooke, Executive Vice President – Manufacturing, Toyota Motor Europe said; “Congratulations to Midland Lead upon being awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise 2024 for Sustainable Development. An East Midlands jewel in the crown for circular economy where waste becomes a resource and sustainability a legacy. A company where skilled, motivated people are at the heart of everything they do.”

Mark Goldby DL, Chair of the East Midlands Manufacturing Network added; “Midland Lead’s commitment to sustainability is truly commendable. As one of our more active members in our network it’s great to see them leading the way in integrating environmental consciousness into their products and operations. This recognition is well-deserved and will set them apart from their peers and I’m sure it will motivate them to keep pushing boundaries and setting new standards within the manufacturing sector, a sector that has many challenges when it comes to understanding how they can work effectively towards Net Zero themselves.”

The King’s Awards for Enterprise, previously known as The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, were renamed last year to reflect His Majesty The King’s desire to continue the legacy of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s by recognising outstanding UK businesses. The Award programme, now in its 58th year, is the most prestigious business award in the country, with successful businesses able to use the esteemed King’s Awards Emblem for the next five years.

In 2024, only 29 businesses across the UK have been awarded with the Sustainable Development award.
