Proudly supporting the build of a dental surgery in Africa

Midland Lead is very excited to contribute to the build of a dental surgery in Mwanza, Tanzania.

Recently we have been approached by A-dec – a UK-based dental equipment manufacturer and installer – and Bridge2Aid, to support them in their efforts to improve dental care in East Africa.

Bridge2Aid is dental charity trying to increase access to (emergency) dentistry in East Africa. At the moment the dental charity runs a two-surgery dental practice in Mwanza, Tanzania’s second city, to fund the delivery of training programmes in rural areas. To improve the quality and capacity of this practice, Bridge2Aid is planning to convert another building into a three-surgery dental practice (Hope 2). This surgery can then be occupied by visiting locum dentists, who provide skills and training, but also carry out dental treatments.

In cooperation with A-dec and Bridge2Aid, Midland Lead is supplying lead-lined boards (including fillet strips) for the lining of the x-ray room in the new surgery. The boards have been manufactured in our onsite board workshop and are now ready for despatch to Nuneaton (A-dec’s headoffice). Later this month, the boards will be shipped by container, to arrive in Tanzania mid-May. Where A-dec and Bridge2Aid will be working incredibly hard to develop the new dental surgery – planned to open end of June 2014!

We wish both A-dec – installer of the dental surgery – and Ian Stephens – project manager of Dental Hope Centre – the best of luck with this exciting project!
