Midland Lead Celebrates The King’s Award for Enterprise in Grand Style
On Friday, November 22, we hosted an unforgettable celebration to mark our receipt of The King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development 2024. The event, attended by over 80 suppliers, customers, friends and team members, was a fitting tribute to the company’s remarkable achievement.
The prestigious award was officially presented by Liz Fothergill CBE, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the County of Derbyshire, and Mr Tony Walker, Chair of the King’s Award Panel to Francoise Derksen and Boudewijn Tuinenburg during a formal ceremony. The presentation was followed by a vibrant ‘Team Midland Lead’ celebration featuring live music, delicious food, and a DJ, creating an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie.
A Moment of Pride and Recognition
Speaking at the event, Liz Fothergill CBE expressed her admiration for Midland Lead’s accomplishments, stating: “It is with great pride and admiration that we’re all here to celebrate your exceptional achievements. This award is considered the highest accolade to be bestowed on any UK business—a symbol of excellence and perseverance.”
Celebrating Teamwork and Community
In his speech, Boudewijn Tuinenburg extended heartfelt gratitude to the entire Midland Lead team, from shop floor workers and delivery drivers to management and administrative staff: “This award would not have been possible without a true team effort,” he said.
Francoise Derksen added a heartfelt note of appreciation to local businesses, suppliers, and the community, emphasising their crucial role in supporting Midland Lead’s growth and future ambitions.

The announcement of Midland Lead’s success came in May 2024, when the company learned it had been selected for The King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development. Francoise highlighted the company’s dedication to environmental responsibility, stating: “A strong team is essential to driving real change within a company. We are fortunate to have a dedicated team that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in our industry, with a clear focus on environmental responsibility.”
A Rare Honour in 2024
In 2024, only 29 businesses across the UK have been awarded the Sustainable Development category, making Midland Lead’s achievement even more noteworthy. The recognition reflects their unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship within their industry.
