Meet Sarah Ivins
Getting to know Sarah Ivins – radiation protection coordinator
From Iceland’s Blue Lagoon to Britain’s Land Rover shows, we find out what our newly hired radiation protection coordinator Sarah Ivins likes outside of work, as well as delving into her role at Midland Lead.
Bringing on board a wealth of experience, her varied background has seen her work for a host of companies, from a local brewery to a software company, gaining skills in admin, stock keeping, marketing and budgeting.
Having joined the company just three months ago, Sarah has already been busy helping expand our healthcare department.
We chatted to Sarah to find out more…
What was it about this role that appealed to you?
“I have a wide-ranging career history and have always enjoyed varied roles. The role of radiation protection coordinator looked both interesting and diverse. The lead industry is always changing and this position sees me work with lots of different sectors.”
What does your role involve?
“Working closely with Midland Lead’s business development manager Warren Goodall, I assist in expanding the healthcare side of the business. This involves both sales and promotion of lead sheet to the healthcare industry, working to get more exposure with architects, radiation and protection advisors and such like. There’s lots of networking involved too.”
What’s the best thing about working for Midland Lead?
“The variety. Every day is different. One day I’ll be chatting to a veterinary surgery, another I’ll be talking to a dentist, and then I’ll be discussing lead protection for an x-ray room at a football club.”
How would your colleagues describe you?
“I think they’d describe me as friendly and bubbly.”
What do you like doing out of work?
“I’m a bit of petrol head and I particularly love Land Rovers. I enjoy both fixing them up and driving them, and often attend car shows to see all the Land Rover line-ups. I also love animals. I have a dog and sheep! My partner actually owns the sheep, but I dabble in sheep shearing every now and again!”
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
“It’s quite different, but I’ve always wanted to go to Iceland. I’d like to visit the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, which is in a lava field in Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula. I’d love to get a massage on a float in the Blue Lagoon, while looking at all the beautiful scenery!”
If you won £1m, what would you do with it?
“I’d probably buy a big house in the country and make sure my family are all looked after. If I had any left over, I’d take them all on a big family holiday, perhaps to somewhere like Australia.”
