From 1st of July 2013 our lead sheet is CE marked

In accordance with the requirements of the new European Construction Products Regulation (CPR) related to CE marking for construction, our machine cast lead sheet and rolled lead sheet, manufactured in UK codes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 (and in other thicknesses from 1.32mm to 3.6mm) will be CE marked to BS EN 14783 from the 1st of July 2013.

Each of our lead rolls in the codes mentioned above are now labeled with the abbreviated CE mark for either machine cast or rolled lead sheet. This label gives details on where the lead is manufactured (Swadlincote), the year in which the CE mark is first applied (2013), the BS number that the product is CE marked against (BS EN 14783) and the website address where you can find the full details on the CE marking.

From the 1st of July 2013, we have a new download category on our website: CE marking. In this section you can find all the documents related to the CE marking of both our machine cast lead and rolled lead:

Elaine Clamp, Operations Manager at Midland Lead: “The CE marks on our machine cast lead sheet and our rolled lead basically mean that if you use one of these types of lead sheet – in codes 3 to 8 or in any thickness in between – for roofing, external cladding or internal lining, you can be assured that the lead is ‘fit for purpose’. The CE marking is related to the suitability of the lead as a weatherproofing, cladding and lining material in construction.”

Not all construction products have to carry a CE mark. Our sand cast lead for example is exempt from CE marking, because it is made in a traditional way. Also, our ancillaries do not have to carry CE marking at the moment, but we will keep a close eye on future developments around CE marking. As a manufacturer to the construction industry, Midland Lead is keen to show that it is a responsible manufacturer of construction products. And that we are more than confident to put our name on products we supply and ensure they are fit for purpose.

In addition to the above, we would like to inform you that the machine cast lead and rolled lead sheet you may still have in stock from us and were produced prior to the 1st of July 2103 are not affected, as there is a transition period within the CPR (Construction Products Regulations).
