East Midland Chamber Award 2022 Finalists for Commitment to People Development

Midland Lead has been shortlisted for the East Midlands Chamber Commitment to People Development 2022 award.

We are extremely proud to have made the shortlist for this award that celebrates the achievements of successful and innovative businesses within our region. We know that it’s people that make us a great company and being shortlisted is testament to the dedication and teamwork here at Midland Lead.

Francoise Derksen, HR Manager commented; “We are very pleased to be among the finalists for the EMC Commitment to People Development Award. Together with Loates HR, we have been developing our approach to people development for the last 5 years through a cultural transformation approach.

“We want to establish Midland Lead as an employer of choice and excellent manufacturer driven by clear business need to recruit and retain the best to deliver the best for our customers. This award would recognise our investment in doing things differently with genuine employee engagement at its core.”

The Commitment to People award recognises organisations that can demonstrate a clear commitment to people development and the implementation and promotion of a learning and development culture, as well as how employee wellbeing is supported.

Here at Midland Lead, our focus is to build our business that is strongly positioned for future opportunities with a flexible, committed and happy workforce. The judges have recognised our investment in doing things differently with genuine employee engagement at its core. In manufacturing recruitment and retention can be challenging, but we see potential in people that work for us, and our mantra is to recruit for attitude, train for skills and focus on recruiting for cultural fit.

One of our core values is to engage with employees regularly, regardless of what role they have within the organisation, as engagement is key to business growth. We recently held a serie

s of consultations and workshops that outlined some valuable feedback and made some significant changes to our shift patterns to ensure people had a better work-life balance.

Our Wellbeing strategy is also being developed throughemployee engagement and this will form a plan developed by our people that is underpinned by one of our values that is to ‘Look Out For Each Other’. This will include developing focus groups to ask employees what we can further do to support wellbeing and mental health.

Sarah Loates, owner of LoatesHR supports Midland Lead, ensuring people are at the centre of everything they do; “We work with many SMEs across the East Midlands. Midland Lead consistently punches above its weight concerning its investment in its people and implementing best practice in HR. They are genuine about creating the right culture and in turn an engaged workforce, they care about their employees which in turn reaps results for the business and its employees too.”

These awards serve as a reminder to everyone that Derbyshire is a fantastic place to live, work and do business.

The winners will be announced at a Gala Dinner on Friday 11th November at Reach Events on

Pride Park and selected winners will go on to the national BCC awards.

A massive thank you to our incredible team here at Midland Lead and congratulations to all the other finalists BEAR, Bam Boom Cloud, EMA Training and UK Asbestos Training Association.
