SUPPLYING SPECIALIST RADIATION SHIELDING FOR A LANDMARK HEALTHCARE DEVELOPMENT
Midland Lead was selected by DVM Global to supply specialist lead-lined plasterboard systems for the new Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre (DTEC) at West Middlesex University Hospital—a major £80 million healthcare investment that will transform diagnostic and outpatient services across North West London.
Awarded the interior dry lining package for the five-storey extension, DVM Global required a reliable specialist supplier capable of delivering high-performance radiation shielding products for the building’s X-ray and CT imaging suites. Midland Lead was chosen for its proven expertise in manufacturing and supplying lead-lined building materials that meet the demanding standards of modern healthcare construction.
Project Overview
The new Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre represents the largest capital investment ever undertaken by Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Designed to improve access to healthcare for residents across Hounslow, Richmond and Ealing, the facility will significantly expand diagnostic, cancer and renal treatment services while helping to reduce waiting times and improve patient outcomes.
Construction began in 2024, with completion scheduled for summer 2026. Once operational, the centre will provide advanced imaging, outpatient treatment and education facilities, supporting approximately 12 hours of clinical services per day, six days a week.
The development has also been designed as an all-electric building, reflecting the Trust’s commitment to sustainability and creating a modern healthcare environment for both patients and staff.
Midland Lead's Contribution
Working closely with DVM Global, Midland Lead supplied 2 tonnes of lead sheet and 376 precision-manufactured lead-lined plywood and plasterboards for the specialist imaging areas, including:
• X-ray examination rooms
• CT scanning suites
• Associated controlled imaging environments
These shielding systems are essential in protecting staff, patients and visitors from ionising radiation, while ensuring compliance with NHS specifications, radiation protection standards and project design requirements.
Every board was manufactured to the specified lead equivalency, enabling efficient installation by DVM Global’s dry lining teams while maintaining the strict quality standards expected on a major healthcare project.
Delivering Specialist Healthcare Solutions
Healthcare developments demand accuracy, compliance and dependable supply. Midland Lead’s experience in radiation shielding products enabled the project team to receive high-quality materials manufactured to exact specifications and delivered in line with the construction programme.
By supporting DVM Global throughout the interior fit-out phase, Midland Lead helped ensure the imaging suites could be constructed efficiently, providing the specialist protection required for advanced diagnostic equipment.
