Harrogate is set to benefit from a new state-of-the-art Day Case Surgery and Imaging Centre, procured through the NHS England Procure 23 National Framework. The new two-storey permanent facility has been designed to enhance local healthcare services by expanding diagnostic capacity and improving patient care.
The centre will feature:
• Two MRI scanners
• Two CT scanners
• Three X-ray rooms
• Seven ultrasound scanners
The Challenge
Diagnostic imaging environments require specialist radiation shielding to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and healthcare professionals while meeting stringent NHS performance and compliance standards. The project required a reliable shielding solution that could be delivered on schedule and adapted to evolving site requirements during construction.
The Solution
Midland Lead was specified as the specialist supplier
of lead-lined radiation shielding panels for the imaging suites. Designed specifically for demanding healthcare environments, Midland Lead’s shielding systems provide effective protection against ionising radiation while offering durability, ease of installation and long-term cost efficiency.
Installation was undertaken by Ace Ceilings and Partitions of Rotherham, who successfully installed:
• 707 lead-lined plywood panels
• Over 3 tonnes of additional lead sheet
The shielding installation commenced in late 2025 and was completed efficiently by Ace’s experienced installation team, helping maintain programme deadlines and supporting the timely delivery of this important healthcare facility.
