Fortis Clinic Wigmore Street is a newly established, seven-storey, 79,000 sq ft private orthopaedic hospital located in the heart of London. The state-of-the-art facility features 39 en-suite inpatient rooms, consultation and treatment rooms, three advanced operating theatres, two anaesthetic rooms, a dedicated recovery bay, and a comprehensive imaging suite equipped with the latest MRI, CT and X-ray technology. Patients also benefit from an extensive physiotherapy suite, providing high-quality care from diagnosis through to rehabilitation.
The Challenge
Midland Lead was selected by Volute of London, the nominated contractor, as the preferred supplier of radiation-protective lead-lined wall boards for this prestigious healthcare project.
The installation presented several logistical and operational challenges:
• The programme was highly time-sensitive, requiring products to be manufactured and delivered within demanding timescales.
• Installation work had to be completed during weekends and outside normal clinic operating hours to minimise disruption to ongoing activities.
• The central London location imposed strict delivery schedules and vehicle weight restrictions, making logistics particularly complex.
• The project required specialist fire-rated lead-lined boards, manufactured to meet both radiation shielding and fire performance requirements.
The Solution
Working closely with Volute of London, Midland Lead coordinated manufacturing, deliveries and technical support to ensure materials arrived precisely when required. Careful planning enabled deliveries to comply with site restrictions while maintaining the project’s tight programme.
