Traditional sandcast lead production process perfected at Midland Lead

While we’re predominantly known in the industry for our premium BBA-accredited machine cast lead, we’re actually the only British company to offer the complete lead range. Alongside machine cast, this includes rolled and sandcast lead sheet, the latter of which has seen some heavy investment of late here at Midland Lead.

Reserved specifically for heritage projects, sandcast lead’s traditional manufacturing method is both highly skilled and labour intensive, and is just one of the company’s areas receiving investment.

Although our end product is authentic and traditionally made, it is produced through a forward-thinking and innovative manufacturing method that offers heritage projects the best of both worlds.

Our sandcast lead workshop has been purpose-built and utilises modern technology. This not only ensures an efficient process that eliminates unnecessary waste, but also creates sandcast lead that has just the right thickness and tensile quality, resulting in that fantastically authentic look.

Having been busy improving and perfecting our sandcast lead production method, we are now able to offer this specialist product in codes 6-8 and sizes to suit. And while this heritage product is one of the latest additions to our construction range, we’ve already built up a strong portfolio of reputable projects where our sandcast lead has been successfully installed; seeing us work with English Heritage and the National Trust, as well as church authorities, listed property homeowners, architects and planners.

One of the most interesting projects, for example, was supplying top London roofing contractor E.J. Roberts Roofing Ltd with 4.4T sandcast lead for Mary Magdalene Church, in Paddington. Working for the Parochial Church Council, along with refurbishment and repair work, the project involved laying Welsh slate with associated lead work to the Grade I listed church.

In addition to being the only British company to offer the complete lead range, we also remain the only British manufacturer of sandcast lead that is not also operating as a contractor; allowing us to offer truly competitive prices.
