Yorkshire-based Arch Building Supplies, a well-established independent builders’ merchant, is known among the region’s builders and DIYers alike for high stock levels, extensive expertise and quality products.
Along with timber, decorative aggregates, and stone and block paving, company director Robin Shuttleworth says the business has stocked Midland Lead’s machine cast lead sheet for the past 20 years.
While Arch Building Supplies has been in operation for over 33 years, Robin bought the business just two and a half years ago. “When I bought the firm, it was already well-established and had developed some great supplier relationships,” he says.
“Back when Arch Building Supplies first chose to stock Midland Lead’s product, machine cast lead was fairly new in the industry at the time. So they tried it out, and as it was well-received by customers, have stuck with it ever since.
“From the point I came on board, I’ve kept a lot of the same trusted suppliers, including Midland Lead. I really value good supplier relationships, and Midland Lead always deliver within three days, have a good stock size and can accommodate bespoke requests if needed,” he adds.
While strong supplier relationships have remained unaffected since Robin took on the business, he has made some big changes since taking the reins.
“I took the move to branch out the business by opening up a second branch in Otley; a merchant yard previously known as Marshall’s,” he notes. “As our locations and customer base have been growing, as have sales of lead sheet, which we’re seeing gradually rise all the time.”
With two branches going strong and lead sheet demand remaining high, the future looks bright for Arch Building Supplies under its new ownership, and we look forward to seeing what the next few years will bring.
