At Midland Lead we feel that 25 years in manufacturing lead sheet and over 400,000 tonnes of our material on UK roofs is worth a celebration. So that's why we decided to do so this year, together with our customers. From June till October '08 we've organised 4 special events to celebrate our 25th birthday and to give our customers the VIP treatment they deserve.
On the 18th of June 2008, three lucky winners of our 25th anniversary competition - together with three of their guests - have been offered the best seats in our corporate box at Royal Ascot, to enjoy Midland Lead’s first party. Although not everyone backed the right horse, it has been a brilliant birthday.
During this year’s sweet and short summer heat wave, our second birthday party to celebrate our 25th anniversary together with our customers couldn’t have gone any better. On Friday July 25 ’08 six keen fishermen spent one of the most memorable fishing days ever fly-fishing on the Test.
The celebrations began Thursday evening at Hotel du Vin in Winchester. After an excellent meal in the hotel’s Bistro - and some superb wines - all five prize winners went to bed early, in eager anticipation of what was to come. The next day at 8am our fishermen were taken to world’s most famous chalk stream at Wherwell Priory. Here the six anglers were accompanied by three local expert instructors who shared their secrets of successful fly-fishing; stalking and catching brown trout. And once the right beats were chosen, all were lucky enough to have caught something with a fly...
Our lucky 25th anniversary winners of a round of golf on the famous Brabazon course at the Belfry were disappointed back in September when it was decided to postpone the event due to the terrible weather. A date in October was chosen - the 17th - and all the arrangements were put back, but it was with some concern that we viewed the conditions over the days approaching The Big Day. We need not have worried. As we gathered the night before for a sumptuous meal in the Belfry's French restaurant, the omens were good and sure enough the next day dawned bright and clear - one of the best days for golf this year!
We will not try to describe the golf itself; sufficient to say that the Brabazon course is no push-over but we all acquitted ourselves well. A small wager was played for, winner-take-all, and was then donated to Midland Lead's charity, the NSPCC. So, not only did all players have a great time, we also did a little good.
Racing the world's fastest cars on the famous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit has to be the ultimate dream of many racing fans. And Midland Lead made that dream come true for 12 of its customers! Unimer managing director Howard Grant picked the lucky winners in the final prize draw of Midland Lead's 25th anniversary competition.
On the 14th of October, around 8.00 o'clock in the morning, the 'Midland Lead Ferrari team' took off driving the greatest cars around Silverstone including a Porsche, Lotus, Ford Fiesta Rally car, 'the real thing' - a Formula Silverstone single-seater - and the Ferrari itself of course. The team was up against some heavy competition from the McLaren and Toyota team, but the skills from our drivers were outperforming all. Especially Joe Modino from MP Moran raced his heart out with his Formula single-seater - putting down the fastest time on record (44.5 seconds) well above the average of 49 seconds. Not to mention Angela Lysiak, who received a trophy for 'the most aggressive driver' on the race track!
But apart from speed, our drivers all mastered the skills needed to become real racing legends. The Midland Lead team has achieved some terrific results during the rally racing event: hand braking, sharp corner cutting and even driving round the 'suicide drop' were all a piece of cake for our winners...
